On 22 December 2025, on the Day of the Diplomatic Service of Ukraine, the Embassy of Ukraine in the State of Kuwait, within the framework of the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, launched the Ukrainian Bookshelf at the National Library of Kuwait.
The aim of this international educational initiative is to make Ukrainian literature more accessible to Ukrainians abroad and to help them maintain a strong connection with their native culture and language. As part of the initiative, a collection of Ukrainian books for both adult readers and children has been added to the holdings of the National Library of Kuwait.
During a warm and productive meeting, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the State of Kuwait, Maksym Subkh, presented the Director General of the National Library of Kuwait, Mrs. Siham Al-Azmi, and the library staff with a selection of Ukrainian publications, including classical literature translated into Arabic and English, monographs on the history and culture of Ukraine, photo albums, as well as children’s books. These publications introduce Kuwaiti readers to the richness of Ukraine’s cultural heritage and contemporary humanitarian thought.
The parties also discussed prospects for developing cooperation between the national libraries of Ukraine and Kuwait.
It is symbolic that this initiative was implemented in 2025, a year in which Kuwait was designated the Capital of Arab Culture and Media by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). The launch of the Ukrainian Bookshelf during this period represents an important step in strengthening cultural dialogue and promoting Ukraine throughout the Arab world.
