Ukraine's public diplomacy in Kuwait has been significantly reinforced in recent years due to numerous successfully implemented projects in various fields of mutual cooperation. These projects highlight the latest Ukrainian outcomes in culture, medicine, education, sports and tourism, presenting the multifaceted potentials of Ukraine in Kuwait. In light of strengthening the bilateral cooperation between our countries, digital diplomacy has also offered a valuable perspective.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the State of Kuwait, the Embassy of Ukraine held twice the "Days of Ukrainian Culture in Kuwait".
The first "Days of Ukrainian Culture in Kuwait" were held on May 23-24, 2012 at the initiative of the Embassy of Ukraine in the State of Kuwait under the auspices of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature of the State of Kuwait as well as local company “Kuwait Energy”. The program of the event included an exhibition of Ukrainian contemporary art, a musical concert by People's Artists of Ukraine Mrs. N. Krutova-Shestak and Mr. B. Kuwaiti society demonstrated a strong interest in the "Days of Ukrainian Culture" which were widely covered by local media, bringing Kuwaiti citizens’ attention to Ukraine, which was preparing for “EURO 2012” at that time.
The success of such an outstanding event determined the interest of both parties in holding the second series of the "Days of Ukrainian Culture in the State of Kuwait" in 2015. The program of cultural events included such activities as performance by “G. The outlined goal shaped the project's slogan: "Business, culture, education, art, sports - events that unite Ukraine and present it to the World".
The key economic event of the Week was a two-day business forum (January 21-22, 2020), organized in cooperation with the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 25 Ukrainian companies partook in the forum’s work, presenting Ukraine’s potential in the fields of investment, agriculture, high technology as well as chemical, food and light industries. The concerts of the talented Ukrainian pianist and composer Yevhen Khmara took place on the eve of Kuwait's national holidays - National Day and Liberation Day. Yevhen Khmara congratulated Kuwaiti citizens on these important holidays in a creative way, by publishing a video with the piano recital of the Kuwait’s National Anthem. Such a musical gift has become very popular on the social networks of the Embassy, being widely shared and reposted.
The final official event of the “Week of Ukraine” was a diplomatic reception on the occasion of the Day of Unity of Ukraine (January 23, 2020). The VIP guest of the event was the Minister of Trade and Industry of Kuwait Khalid Al-Rodan, who also heads the Kuwaiti part of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation between Ukraine and Kuwait.

All events of the “Week of Ukraine” were attended by representatives of business and public circles of Kuwait, foreign diplomats as well as representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora. Such kind of events improves Ukraine’s image among the citizens and leadership of Kuwait presenting Ukraine as a highly developed country, a reliable business and investment partner, and an attractive destination for recreational and medical tourism. Such an unprecedented event can definitely help to boost bilateral cooperation in all fields.
There is significant potential in mutual cooperation between Ukraine and Kuwait in the field of health care. In this context, the outstanding results of V. Kozyavkin’s method should be emphasized. V. Kozyavkin is Ukrainian scientist and rehabilitation doctor, Hero of Ukraine, President of Kozyavkin Medical Group.
He developed methods of treatment of central nervous system lesions and diseases of the musculoskeletal system which were highly appreciated by Ukrainian and international medical community and the top management of Kuwait. In 2013, several hundred of Kuwaiti children suffering from cerebral palsy were treated at the International Rehabilitation Clinic (Truskavets) following the Kozyavkin’s method. The success of the Ukrainian talented doctor provoked discussions regarding the opening of a regional rehabilitation center in Kuwait using the experience of Ukrainian specialists.
In this regard, in December 2015, January 2016, December 2017, May 2018 and June 2019 Prof. V. Kozyavkin visited Kuwait to hold negotiations with the representatives of the Ministry of Health of Kuwait. The central axis of the talks was the discussion of the possibility to resume the governmental program of referring patients with cerebral palsy and other disorders of the central nervous system to Ukraine, as well as the establishment of a special rehabilitation center in Kuwait basing on the experience of Ukrainian doctors.
The interest in further development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of health care has been proven by regular high-level visits: visits of the Minister of Health of Kuwait G. Al-Sayer to Ukraine in January and April 2011, talks of the Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine O. Tolstanov with his Kuwaiti counterpart H. Al-Saghlyavi in the framework of the 2nd session of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Kuwaiti Commission on Economic, Technical and Trade Cooperation in December 2013, meeting of prof. V. Kozyavkin with the Minister of Health of Kuwait A. Al-Ubeidi and members of the Kuwaiti parliamentary committee of the National Assembly on health care in May 2012 and December 2015.
Possible participation of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (Kuwait’s leading financial institution) in the co-financing of the national project "InterMedicalEcoCity" which implies construction of a rehabilitation clinic in the Arabat Spit (Kherson region), was a subject of a lasting discussion. Despite the interest of the Kuwaiti side, the start of the project was postponed because of the illegal annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by the Russian Federation and the unstable security situation in some areas of the eastern regions of Ukraine.
