On 30 November 2025, at the initiative of the Embassy of Ukraine in Kuwait, a closed non-commercial screening of the feature film “Mr. Jones” (“The Price of Truth”) by famous Polish director Agnieszka Holland took place. The film is the result of successful creative cooperation between Poland, the United Kingdom and Ukraine filmmakers. The event was dedicated to the commemoration of the victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine.
This historical drama tells the story of Welsh journalist Gareth Jones, who exposed the truth about the Holodomor that the Stalin regime attempted to conceal. The film portrays his struggle against targeted disinformation and the deliberate suppression of evidence about this crime. The work has received numerous awards at European film festivals and won the Golden Lions for Best Film at the 44th Polish Film Festival.
The screening, attended by around 40 viewers, was organized by the Embassy of Ukraine jointly with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in the State of Kuwait and took place on the premises of the Embassy of Poland.
Heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Kuwait, including the ambassadors of Australia, the United Kingdom, the EU, Turkey, the Holy See, Belgium, Mexico and Guyana, as well as representatives of other friendly countries were present. The audience also included lecturers from Kuwaiti universities, students, researchers, journalists, members of the Ukrainian and Polish communities, and other guests.
The event was opened by the Ambassadors of Poland and Ukraine, Michał Cholewa and Maksym Subkh. In his remarks, the Ambassador of Ukraine emphasized that the screening serves as a powerful reminder that diplomacy is not only about negotiations and policymaking, but also about safeguarding memory, truth and human dignity. He noted that the Holodomor raises issues that remain relevant today: the use of famine as a weapon by the Soviet regime and later by Russia, the suppression of cultural identity, and the manipulation of information. These lessons have profound implications for the present, reminding us that famine is not only a humanitarian crisis but also a violation of fundamental principles of human dignity.
Before the screening began, all attendees observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Holodomor.
Guests also had the opportunity to view printed materials provided by the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide.
The Embassy of Ukraine expresses its sincere gratitude to film producer Mr. Stanisław Dziedzic for granting permission to the film screening, to the team of the film distribution company Kino Świat for their assistance, and to the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kuwait for their co-organization.
