On May 18, 2020, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide, the Crimean Tatar flag was solemnly raised at the Ukrainian Embassy.
The Embassy staff honored the memory of the Crimean Tatar people who suffered the brutal deportation and numerous injustices under the leadership of the former Soviet Union. Remembering these tragic events is crucial, particularly as we observe ongoing manifestations of religious and national intolerance in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by Russia. This includes ethnically and politically motivated persecution of the Crimean Tatars, which reflects the ongoing policy of ethnocide by the occupation authorities of the Russian Federation.
