The main issues raised in the article are: pre-war situation in Ukraine and the first attempts of establishing independence; Ukraine’s total losses in World War II and the contribution of the Ukrainian people in the victory over Nazism; crimes of totalitarian Bolshevik regime (including forced deportation of the Crimean Tatar people); national struggle for independence.
