Statement of Ukraine at the 3rd International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria
I would like to seize this opportunity to express my high appreciation to the Kuwaiti side for hosting and excellent preparation of the Third International Pledging Conference on Syria.
Ukraine is following with deep concern the developments in the Syrian Arab Republic. We sincerely stand for a prompt end of bloodshed and settlement of the conflict exclusively by political and diplomatic means.
We call on parties to the conflict and leading world actors to bear the full responsibility for the future of Syria and the fate of its citizens as well as unconditional respect for fundamental norms of international law.
Unfortunately, nowadays Ukraine goes through the most difficult time in its newest history as well. More than a year ago Russia has carried out an act of aggression against our country by annexing Crimea Peninsula. Since March 2014, Russia has been supporting terrorist groups in Donbas region by supplying funds, arms and military equipment as well as mercenaries. As a result over one million citizens were forced to leave their homes.
At the same time, Ukraine remains fully committed to a peaceful resolution of the crisis in Donbas.
I want to thank the Kuwaiti leadership as well as representatives from other countries for their commitment to support Syrian people and other nations in need.
Thank you Mr. Chairman!
