On February 24, 2026, the National Day of Prayer was held in the State of Kuwait on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The Divine Liturgy took place at the Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Family in Kuwait City with the participation of the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See, Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent, and the Apostolic Vicar of Northern Arabia, Bishop Aldo Berardi.
Representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Kuwait, diplomats from partner countries and states of the Global South, members of the Ukrainian community, journalists, friends of Ukraine, and local faithful gathered in the fully filled cathedral to honour the courage of the Ukrainian people and express solidarity with Ukraine.
The event was opened by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the State of Kuwait, Maksym Subkh, who emphasized that on February 24 Ukrainians in Ukraine and around the world unite in prayer on the day – the anniversary of the full-scale invasion. The Ambassador noted that for four years the Ukrainian people have lived under the conditions of war while maintaining faith in a just and lasting peace.
In his remarks, special attention was given to Ukrainian children affected by the war, including those living in temporarily occupied territories or separated from their families. The Ambassador highlighted the humanitarian role of the Holy See and expressed gratitude for its moral support to Ukraine and its efforts aimed at facilitating the return of deported children and prisoners of war. He also underscored the importance of the Pontiff’s moral leadership and the timeliness of his call for a ceasefire.
During the mass, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the victims of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and all victims of wars around the world. Members of the Ukrainian community performed the prayer for Ukraine “God the Great, the One.”
The Archbishop focused on the humanitarian consequences of the war in Ukraine, calling for prayers for a just peace, the safe return of Ukrainian children to their families, the release of prisoners of war, and support for those suffering from loss, forced displacement, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure.
The National Day of Prayer in Kuwait became a symbol of unity, solidarity, and unwavering support for Ukraine.
