On November 7, 2019 for the first time in the history of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Kuwait two schools – Kyiv Gymnasium of oriental languages and Kuwait’s Om Kolthom secondary school for girls – held a joint Skype-conference to establish relations of friendship and cooperation between the youngsters of our two friendly countries – future leaders who study foreign languages with passion.
Discovering the cultures of Ukraine and Kuwait left an unforgettable impression on pupils of both countries. Together we have built a bridge of friendship between Ukrainian and Kuwaiti schools which is a further step towards fruitful cooperation between our countries. The event was held under the auspices of the Embassy of Ukraine in Kuwait and Kuwait’s Om Kolthom secondary school for girls and attended by H.E. Ambassador of Ukraine to Kuwait Dr. Oleksandr Balanutsa and Ukrainian diplomats, Principal of Om Kolthom secondary school Ms. Maha Al-Mutairi, school’s administration, teachers and pupils.
During the online-conference children exchanged the cultural visit cards of their countries (folk dances, songs and poetry), communicated via the ‘open microphone’ and handed to the Ambassadors the ‘diplomatic pouch’ with their letters, paintings and souvenirs addressed to their new friends on the other side of the bridge.
‘Today we have built the bridge of friendship – one of its pillars is located in Ukraine while the other one is in Kuwait. Around 60 Kuwaiti pupils discovered Ukraine – beautiful, smart and innovative; at the same time 130 Ukrainian pupils entered into the magic world of eastern traditions. Our vision is to evoke children’s interest to travel in the worlds of foreign languages and cultures, since there is only one true luxury, that of human relationships as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry once said’ – H.E. Ambassador of Ukraine to Kuwait Dr. Oleksandr Balanutsa.
At the end of the Skype-conference representatives of the ‘Al-Salam Partnership’ company who were also present at the event, held a charity action distributing Ukrainian ice-cream ‘Three Bears’ among the guests.
